Like other Snoqualmie farmers 100 years ago, Norwegian immigrants Andrew and Bergette Hjertoos devoted their lives to building a successful dairy operation. They constructed a handsome farmhouse, put up a massive, timber-frame hay and dairy barn and played leadership roles in local schools and dairymen’s associations. Thirty years ago, the Hjertoos’ great grandson, Roger Thorson started a “choose and cut” Christmas tree operation on the farm to adapt to changing markets.
